Extensive interactive coverage of the Royal Welsh Show, one of Europe's most prestigious agricultural events, is to be provided by S4C, working in partnership with emuse.
The four-day event, which begins on Monday, 24 July, will have a substantial interactive element on digital satellite, enabled by emuse, which will allow viewers to access extra content.
The application will seamlessly take S4C viewers from the presenter-led coverage on the main digital channel to a dedicated live feed from the showground, simply by pressing red on the remote control.
emuse project managed the interactive aspect of the event, providing the interactive infrastructure and application, the satellite bandwidth, and onsite uplink facility.
"This is a major step up from the previous year's coverage of the show, offering our satellite viewers a choice of views, plus extra information on the event, via the red button. S4C are very pleased to have emuse's team working with us on this challenging project," says S4C's Director of Engineering and Technology, Arshad Rasul.
"We are thrilled to be part of such an intelligent use of our interactive services," says Patrick Rainsford, CEO of emuse. He continues, "S4C are not only broadcasting this huge show but they are also offering their audience the freedom to choose what areas they want to watch at any given moment. This project also shows how we can work on a major live outside broadcast and produce excellent results."
This service will sit alongside S4C's existing interactive services provided by emuse.

About S4C
Since 1982, all Welsh language TV programmes, from whatever source, have been transmitted on S4C to create one comprehensive Welsh medium service. Over the years, S4C has developed a distinctive role in the provision of public service broadcasting to a bilingual community. More recently, new technology, such as the advent of digital television in 1998, has enabled S4C to extend that role by establishing a diversity of services. S4C is a commissioning broadcaster, rather than a programme producer, and most of its programmes are produced by independent producers. Ten hours a week of programming are provided from the licence fee by the BBC. All the services on offer are transmitted from S4C's Headquarters in Llanishen, Cardiff. A partnership between the Boomerang Group, ITV Wales and Teledu Apollo is producing S4C's coverage of the Royal Welsh Show.
