Chairman of Rhone Group PLC
Having qualified as a chartered accountant with Peat Marwick Mitchell, George Magan has pursued an active career in merchant banking and the financial services sector.
He joined Kleinwort Benson in 1971 and then, in the mid '70s, moved to Morgan Grenfell, where he became a senior Director with particular responsibility for handling many high profile corporate finance and merger & acquisition assignments.
In 1988 he co-founded, and became Chairman of, Hambro Magan, a specialist investment banking business which developed rapidly and successfully and which was, in 1996, acquired by the NatWest Group. He was then Chairman of NatWest Markets Corporate Finance and subsequently Chairman of its successor business, Hawkpoint Partners, until 2001.
Mr.Magan has been involved in many high profile Merger and Acquisitions during his career, including Deutsche Bank's acquisition of Morgan Grenfell and Swiss bank Corporation's acquisition of SG Warburg.
George Magan continues to be active in financial services, focusing on private equity, venture capital and the corporate advisory business. He is Chairman of Rhone Group PLC, Lion Capital Partners and Morgan Shipley Limited. He is also a Director of Bank of Ireland and Chairman of Mallett PLC.
Mr.Magan also serves as a Trustee of the Royal Opera House, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the British Museum Development Trust.
